Dear Parents,
We would like to inform you that following the success of the Year of Innovation in 2015, last month, President Sheikh Khalifa declared 2016 the Year of Reading which aims to inspire more people to read.
The Year of Reading initiative continues the approach and vision of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which was based on the conviction that nation-building is not just a focus on urban and technological development, but is highly dependable on human development, which is the real cornerstone of success, and is the reason why the UAE has been able to transform itself in a relatively short period of time, becoming a beacon of progress and centre of culture in both the region and the world.
In September His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Arab Reading Challenge, which runs until April.
“Reading opens minds, magnifies hunger for knowledge and instils the values of openness and moderation that define great civilizations,” he said.
The UAE READS campaign aims to promote, encourage and to spread the habit of reading, which targets both teachers, parents and schools.
The National and Scholastic are accepting entries from reading students and will randomly draw three weekly winners.
The winners will have access to digital collections of books, each month will have a new challenge. Some challenges will require teachers’ or parents’ help.
For registration please follow:
“Schools, parents and libraries should work together to improve reading among kids and all people.”
If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact me or the school office.
